The automotive components sector at the heart of a media training session

The Minister of Industry, Mines and Energy, Ms. Fatma Thabet Chiboub, oversaw, on Friday, December 19, at the headquarters of the Tunisian Automotive Association (TAA) in Tunis, the closing of a training session for a group of journalists from various print, electronic and audiovisual media.
This meeting took place in the presence of the Chief of Staff, Ms. Afef Chachi Tayari, the President of the Association, Ms. Mariem Elloumi, as well as representatives of the Association and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ).

This session was organised by the Tunisian Automotive Association (TAA), in collaboration under the supervision of the ministry services and with the support of GIZ and Invest For Jobs, from December 17 to 19.

In her speech, the minister highlighted the role of the various media in promoting this promising sector and showcasing its strengths at the national and international levels.

She indicated that the automotive components industry strengthens Tunisia's position in the Euro-Mediterranean region and in Africa, adding that the ministry's services are working with all stakeholders to attract large companies, launch new projects, create more jobs and improve the sector's competitiveness.

Presentations were also made on the sector's indicators, which include nearly 300 companies and provide more than 120,000 jobs, while exports reached 3.9 billion euros.

Germany is the top destination for Tunisian exports in this area with 37%, followed by France (21%), Romania (12%) and Italy (11%).

The automotive industry and its components in Tunisia are continuing their growth in order to keep up with global developments and respond to changes in the international market, which is moving towards clean energy and electric vehicles.

Among the major projects planned for the sector is the creation of the "Smart Automotive City" on an area of 300 hectares. This project will include advanced industrial units, research and development laboratories, training centers, and spaces dedicated to modern technologies.

This project will contribute to the creation of up to 150,000 jobs in the medium and long term.

The Charter for competitiveness of the automotive equipment and components industry aims to further strengthen the partnership between the public and private sectors in order to double the number of jobs and exports in the sector.

During the training period, the delegation of journalists visited several industrial companies active in the automotive components and equipment sector, such as TPS Plastivaloire, Draxlmaier, PSZ Electronic and ACTIA.

She also learned about the various activities of the companies located at the Sousse development hub.

This initiative is supported by Invest For Jobs, the project "Partnerships for employment and support for small and medium-sized enterprises in Tunisia II", within the framework of the special initiative "Decent work for a socially just transition", mandated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by GIZ Tunisia, under the supervision of the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy.
